Update to Floating Teacher Blog Post

Hi!

I was at school yesterday getting ready for the year and I thought I would make a video of the other items I did not mention and have added to my cart since my last blog post.  Enjoy!

Wishing you and your students a wonderful new (school) year!

Ms. Razz is an enthusiastic chemistry teacher in New Jersey.  She often counts herself to sleep at night using molecules or by reciting Avogadro's number. (For real.) She believes that every student has the power to learn anything, even chemistry.  After all, she remembers this hustle didn't always come easy to her. She's also a Teachers Pay Teachers seller and you can view and purchase her lessons here.

  1. Thank you for the video and the previous post. I'm in a Secondary School in the UK and we have three floating teachers and they are really struggling with moving around and not losing things. I'm going to share your blog post with the rest of the department.

  3. I'm a floating Spanish teacher, and I'm very close to saying that I actually now prefer the cart... we'll see how this year goes. I discovered that I'm actually less prone to lose things because if something is MIA, darn it, it's got to be somewhere on that cart or on my desk in the closet/office. In spite of my best efforts to be organized, I'm a spreader/stacker, so the fewer horizontal surfaces in my life, the better.
I've already implemented many of your suggestions based on my own trial and error, particularly the filing system.
I love your pencil sharpener and was about to order one on Amazon, but I see some mixed reviews. How did it hold up through the year??
Also, it looked like you were using a mini-clipboard for your BR sign-out, was that right? Even if not, I actually think I might try that b/c it would be lighter and less likely to pull down the Command hook than never really supported the weight of my full-sized clipboard last year.
I, too, let students use whatever they need from the cart, but unless I'm sending team representatives to pick up materials, I make them ask first before approaching the cart. It just helps me to make a mental note of who has been there - this due to a bag of review game candy being stolen. One of my goals for this year is to enforce having them request the needed item in Spanish.

    1. Hi! Thanks so much for watching and commenting on this post.

I'm glad you have become more appreciative of the "cart life." I still struggle, mostly because I have quite a lot of equipment to cart around with me since I teach chemistry. But each year I find ways to make my life easier.

The pencil sharpeners held up well, but I would not suggest allowing your students to sharpen colored pencils with it. It seemed to not sharpen as well after it was used to sharpen those. I have a second one at home that I use for regular pencils only and it works extremely well still.

I do use a mini clipboard for BR sign out. I post the directions on how to sign out on the clipboard pages because my students need their IDs and a special pass to leave the room.

Best wishes for a wonderful new school year!
