Assessment Tech Tool Game Changer During Remote Learning - Episode 29 | MsRazz ChemClass

For weeks now I've been using Google Forms, FlipGrid, and Screencastify to administer assessments. I've used different features within each of these applications, but I struggled to know if my students had enough time to complete their assessments and maintain even the smallest amount of assessment security. I needed to find an application that would allow me to push out multiple versions easily, monitor student progress in real time, and provide meaningful feedback quickly. In this week's episode, I'll share how I started using GoFormative in my classes and how it has been an absolute game changer when administering assessments.

Thank you for watching! Have a great week!

Distance Learning Labs! - Part 2: Implementation and Artifacts - Episode 28 | MsRazz ChemClass

Two weeks ago I felt inspired to try some at home chemistry labs with my students. I decided to incorporate choice into the assignment because I wanted to ensure my students had the necessary materials at home to complete at least one of the experiments. In this week's episode I'll share my strategies for implementation, grading criteria, and some authentic student artifacts.

I hope this post finds you and your loved ones well. It's week two, and unfortunately it seems an end to distance learning isn't in sight. I have been formatively assessing my students multiple times each week, however, with the marking period quickly coming to a close, it's time to start thinking about incorporating summative assessments. Watch as I share some advice for designing and administering summative assessments during distance learning.

Using A Unit Menu Student Choice Tracker - Episode 19 | MsRazz ChemClass

It's time to try something new!

When I rolled out my unit menu product line, I started to get some questions about how I keep track of my students' choices as they work through the menu. To be honest - I never really found it necessary to keep track of each activity due to the formative assessments administered in each section. But you asked, and I listened! I kept track of my students' progress during our unit menu on the mole and the results surprised me. Watch as I share how I prep and plan during the course of this menu as well as how I designed and implemented the new tracker.

Running Online Extra Help Sessions - Episode 18 | MsRazz ChemClass

Last week, many of my students were absent due to assemblies, in school field trips, and guidance appointments. I was concerned that my students would not be in class to ask questions or engage with the content. In effort to help my kids prepare for their assessment, I decided to offer an online extra help/review session using Google Meet. In this week's video I'll share some tips on how to run a review session including camera setup, equipment, and how to establish expectations for your students when interacting in the session.

My Top 5 Simulation Websites - Episode 17 | MsRazz ChemClass

It was a jam-packed week filled with chemical reactions and unit menus! This week, my honors chemistry students were working on a unit menu that included net ionic equations and redox reactions. This unit menu included quite a few simulations, and naturally, I thought this would be a great time to talk about my favorite simulation websites and how I ensure my students get exactly what they need from each sim they interact with.

Unfortunately I was out of school all last week with the flu. It got me thinking - I've never really talked about how I plan for substitutes on my channel. So in this week's episode, I'll describe the kinds of plans I leave and how I communicate my expectations to my students while I am out.

Teaching Chemistry from a Cart

It's definitely been a hot minute since I've talked about what it's like teaching from a cart.  It's hard not having a classroom, but this is my 5th year and I'm making it work.  In this video, I'll share advice on what has helped to keep me organized (and sane!) when preparing for labs and lessons.

Using Student Choice In Station Learning

Welcome back!

My holiday break is officially over and what better way to start the new year than with student choice and learning stations?  This is the first time I have ever offered choice with station learning, and I'm so glad I did. Watch as I describe the five stations I created to help my students learn about ion-dipole intermolecular forces and how I used choice to improve student autonomy.
